Project Example
UG7000 Queuing Tool
Customer was losing productivity and resource allocation by not having a system that allowed for full test resource utilization and automated set up. EXB designed, created, and implemented a queuing tool that would maximize utilization of expensive test equipment. Tests could be run 24 hours per day using the system, ultimately increasing productivity and output. The system eliminated the need for testers to schedule and wait for tester time. It also added capability to run tests remotely, so testers could now run tests from home in the evening, or from their desks at work. This eliminated a lot of foot traffic into the lab and waiting for someone to complete a test.
EXB was instrumental in achieving high success on this project by knowing the details of the need, providing leadership in the design of the system and training of the engineers using the tool. Because of this success, EXB has been requested to lead the effort in supporting customer’s effort to maximize usage of their investment by converting additional project areas to the test queuing tool. This resulted in the tool being implemented on Unix/C, Windows/Python, and Windows/LabWindows environments.
Currently, EXB is in the process of designing a new generic queuing system that should be usable at multiple customer sites.
