Modeling and Simulation

The EXB systems and software engineering team have substantial experience in a wide range of modeling and simulation tools used to support development and testing. We have knowledge in specific tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, UML, Rationale Rose, and many other industry standards.

EXB also uses model based development techniques where applicable to enhance schedule and quality performance while reducing costs.

Project Example

Title: LaserRef 6 Modeling and Simulation

LaserRef 6 is the next generation in the Honeywell LaserRef Inertial Reference Units (IRU). This device provides inertial reference data (attitudes, velocities, position, etc.) for other devices on various aircraft platforms. The LaserRef device has many configurable settings, and the previous devices in this product line are used on a variety of aircraft.

EXB participated in the Honeywell LaserRef 6 Model Based Development (MBD) effort. The project made extensive use of MATLAB with Simulink for the majority of the Inertial Reference processing, as well as other functional areas (input processing, data filtering, etc.). Target code was generated from the models, and test environments were created for the models. The test environments created were used for testing the model functionality in both the MATLAB environment and the generated code environment. For the LaserRef 6 program, the test environments needed to support verification activities were generated via MATLAB script programs, thus eliminating the (often time-consuming) activity of having to manually create the necessary interfaces. This has greatly reduced the time from model changes to a “ready for test” state.
